Greetings,
I hope this message finds you well. As your Representative for the Thirteenth Congressional District of Georgia, I want to share some important updates with you from the past month:
Protecting Georgia’s Economy
On May 29th, the Department of Labor announced plans to pause certain operations of the Job Corps program, a decision that jeopardizes critical support for young Americans. Job Corps serves youth ages 16 to 24, offering them a direct pathway to careers in industries like manufacturing and shipbuilding. That is why I joined 198 of my colleagues in signing a letter urging the Department to fully maintain this essential program. Investing in our young workforce means investing in the future of America.
At the same time, President Trump’s chaotic and inconsistent tariff policies continue to drive up costs for Georgia’s businesses. From agriculture and manufacturing to logistics and film production, key sectors across our state are facing growing economic uncertainty. As a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee, I pressed Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell on how these tariffs are hurting everyday Americans. I will continue to push the Trump Administration to put forward a cohesive tariff policy.
Expanding Educational Opportunities
Every student deserves a well-rounded education. To further this goal, I introduced the Reimagining Inclusive Arts Education Act, which would expand access to music and arts education for students across the nation, particularly in historically underserved and underfunded communities. Research shows that students who are involved in arts education perform better academically, have improved emotional well-being, and are better prepared for careers in a 21st century economy.
In my role as a senior member of the House Agriculture Committee, I questioned Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins and criticized her efforts to suspend bipartisan funding for 1890's Land Grant Scholarship Program. These scholarships support students at historically Black colleges and universities with a focus on agriculture, and their continued funding is vital to the future of our agricultural workforce. As a proud graduate of an African American 1890 Land-Grant University, Florida A&M University, I know the great value this student scholarship program provides for our nation’s students.
Ensuring Access to Healthcare
In response to the Department of Veterans Affairs proposal to remove physician anesthesiologists from surgical anesthesia teams, I led a bipartisan letter to Secretary Collins urging him to reconsider this misguided plan and uphold the high standard of care our Veterans deserve.
Additionally, I met with orthopedic physicians from Georga to discuss Medicare payment reform, the impact of Republican proposed Medicaid cuts, and strategies to improve access to quality care. The GOP Reconciliation bill would include massive cuts to Medicaid, causing 17 million people to lose coverage. I strongly oppose these cuts and will fight to restore funding.
Meeting with our Community Leaders
I met with Rockdale Country Chairwoman, JaNice Van Ness to discuss community project funding in the FY26 budget. In total, I requested $40 million from the House Committee on Appropriations to fund 15 projects across the 13th Congressional District. This funding—if signed into law—will be used directly in our communities – to repair roads, modernize schools, expand access to clean water, and bolster local economies. For a complete list of projects and funding amounts click here.

I also met virtually with the Gwinnett County NAACP to discuss the Job Corps program and cuts to SNAP and Medicaid in the GOP Reconciliation bill. Together, we are fighting against disastrous cuts to crucial programs that serve Gwinnett County and Georgia’s 13th District.
Thank you for staying in touch with me, and I look forward to continuing to serve you and your family. As always, feel free to call on me and my staff in Stockbridge and DC. Learn more at www.DavidScott.House.gov and follow me on X, Facebook, and Instagram.
