Hi John,
We just released a new report on U.S. gun deaths with the latest data from the CDC and the findings are troubling.
For the third year in a row, gun suicides hit an all-time high. More than 27,000 people died by gun suicide in 2023 accounting for 58% of all gun deaths. That’s one life lost every 19 minutes.

While overall gun homicides declined, the report shows a steep rise in gun suicides among Black and Hispanic youth highlighting a growing crisis that demands urgent action.
Guns remain the leading cause of death overall for young people ages 1–17, and suicide by firearm is driving that trend.
Our new report, Gun Violence in the United States 2023: Examining the Gun Suicide Epidemic [[link removed]] , breaks down the latest CDC data and outlines solutions that work including policies and programs to create time and space between a person in crisis and a gun.
We also released a companion report, From Crisis to Action: Public Health Recommendations for Firearm Suicide Prevention [[link removed]] , with public health recommendations to prevent firearm suicide and save lives.
