This June, The Center didn’t just celebrate Pride—we embodied it. Under the theme “Pride is Power,” we turned our building, programming, and the streets of New York City into powerful declarations of visibility, joy, and collective strength. Every event, every gathering, every moment reminded us that our community’s resilience is both historic < [link removed] > and ongoing—and that The Center continues to be its beating heart.
We kicked off the month with the Youth Clubhouse Open Mic, where LGBTQ+ young people (ages 13–22) filled our space with music, poetry, and truth-telling. Just a few days later, Center Stage < [link removed] > , presented by Lea DeLaria and Tom Kirdahy, brought theater, music, and laughter to hundreds of guests—offering a vibrant cultural reminder that queer joy is a form of resistance.
Midway through the month, we hosted our Juneteenth Block Party < [link removed] > —a street festival uplifting Black queer excellence with food, local vendors, spoken word, and music. It wasn’t just a celebration; it was a statement of solidarity and intersectional pride. “This is what Black joy looks like,” one attendee shared, dancing from one vendor to the next.
On Pride Sunday, The Center made its presence felt in the most visible way possible: marching alongside over a million people during the NYC Pride March. With our float glowing and staff, volunteers, and community members in stride, we handed out free “Pride is Power” merch and offered high-fives, hugs, and hope to thousands along the route. Meanwhile, back at 13th Street, we hosted our Pride Pit Stop, welcoming attendees into a joyful oasis featuring live entertainment, snacks, giveaways, and a cool-down space that doubled as a moment of connection.
All month long, our building was a hub of vital services. Hundreds of community members walked through our doors each week for mental health counseling, support groups, HIV prevention and care, TGNC services, and more. We reminded everyone that Pride is not just a celebration—but a call to action. And not just a party—but a deep expression of collective power.
Thank you for showing up, standing tall, and building this power with us.
