House overcomes nasty infighting to advance Trump’s abominable bill, pushing it closer to final passage

Like lemmings racing recklessly toward a perilous cliff, House Republicans set aside various objections to Trump's giant turd of a budget bill and predictably fell in line, clearing the way for Speaker Mike Johnson to deliver a signature win for the MAGA cult leader before his arbitrarily imposed Fourth of July deadline. By a vote of 219-213, Republicans cleared perhaps the final procedural hurdle before one last House vote today to add $3,300,000,000,000 to the national debt; strip away healthcare from at least 11 MILLION Americans; close hundreds of rural hospitals across the country; eliminate food security for several million of our most food-insecure neighbors; and — of course — give the wealthy, megawealthy, and monocle-wearing ultrawealthy among us yet another completely unnecessary tax cut. Contact your representatives immediately and DEMAND they reject the worse budget bill in modern American history post haste! Then definitely remember in 2026 and beyond!

Kilmar Abrego Garcia describes "severe beatings" and "psychological torture" in Salvadoran prison
The man the Trump admin illegally deported to El Salvador's notorious hellhole CECOT prison is finally breaking his silence on his experience there, and it is beyond horrifying. Upon arrival at CECOT, the detainees were greeted by a prison official who stated, ‘Welcome to CECOT. Whoever enters here doesn’t leave,’” according to the account. “Plaintiff Abrego Garcia was then forced to strip, issued prison clothing, and subjected to physical abuse including being kicked in the legs with boots and struck on his head and arms to make him change clothes faster. His head was shaved with a zero razor, and he was frog-marched to cell 15, being struck with wooden batons along the way.” Abrego said he shared a cell with 20 other people, who were forced to kneel overnight, “with guards striking anyone who fell from exhaustion. During this time, Plaintiff Abrego Garcia was denied bathroom access and soiled himself. The detainees were confined to metal bunks with no mattresses in an overcrowded cell with no windows, bright lights that remained on 24 hours a day, and minimal access to sanitation.” This kind of treatment is inhumane for the most hardened criminals, let alone a man who was simply born in the wrong geographic coordinates. Judging from the shitty conditions at Trump's "Alligator Alcatraz" concentration camp in the Florida swamp, this kind of brutality may soon be coming to our own soil.

FDA vaccine official restricted COVID vaccine approvals against the advice of agency staff
Good news on the snake oil front! The government's top vaccine official, working under the watchful gaze of recovering heroin addict and virulent anti-science quack Robert F. Kennedy Jr., recently restricted the approval of two COVID-19 vaccines, disregarding recommendations from government scientists, according to federal documents released Wednesday. Nice to know the FDA is now treating pandemic science like a choose-your-own-adventure book, ignoring scientific experts and instead flipping to the page where we don't follow the data. This will obviously end well.

Trump’s big bill of bullshit will supercharge mass deportations by funneling $170 BILLION to ICE

This is more money than the military spending of any other country in the world besides China, and that's no coincidence. The Trump regime is building a seperate military in order to wage war on the American people. It will fuel daily raids by masked and militarized thugs on our communities, with innocent people of color funneled into a second carceral state to be abused and exploited — and if you don't think they're not eventually coming for the rest of us, think again.

Take Action: Tell Congress to stop the IRS from collaborating with Trump's deportation goons!

Judge blocks "sweeping" asylum crackdown after Trump declared "invasion" at southern border
Now for a morsel of slightly less awful news: Donald Trump’s effort to crack down on asylum claims by immigrants crossing the southern border vastly exceeded his legal authority and must be halted, a federal judge ruled Wednesday. US District Judge Randolph Moss said the authoritarian crackpot's Jan. 20 proclamation declaring an "invasion" of southern border-crossers cannot be used to justify the "sweeping" unilateral restrictions he sought to impose, including severe limits to asylum applications and the ability to seek protection from torture. Under Trump’s proclamation, people who crossed the southern border between "ports of entry" had been barred from seeking asylum or invoking other legal protections that would allow them to temporarily remain in the US while their claims are processed. Moss, an Obama appointee, said his ruling will apply to all people "who are currently present or who will be present in the United States" and might face the restrictions being challenged in the case. He said a separate ruling would address similar claims by those already deported under the procedures he has found to be illegal.

Republican congressman who voted against Trump’s bill will now vote for it to own the libs: "Democrats reaction helped" to "persuade" me
Ohio congressman Warren Davidson bravely announced on Wednesday that he would now support Trump's abysmal budget bill, which he railed against in May — to own the Democrats, of course, and in no way whatsoever because he felt acutely threatened by the MAGA cult leader and could see his political career evaporating before his eyes. Please tread on me, daddy!

Jan. 6 seditionist gets life in prison despite Trump’s efforts to free rioters
A man who participated in Donald Trump's seditious Jan. 6 riots has been sentenced to life behind bars despite the wannabe dictator's unconscionable efforts to pardon him. Edward Kelley has been convicted of plotting to murder FBI special agents who investigated him over his actions on Jan. 6. Kelley was initially convicted in November of conspiracy to murder United States employees, solicitation to commit a crime of violence, and influencing or retaliating against federal officials by threat. Nonetheless, Trump pardoned Kelley along with over 1,500 other Jan. 6 rioters when he took power in January. Still, Kelley couldn’t steer clear of prison forever. A few months later, US District Judge Thomas A. Varlan sentenced Kelley during a hearing in Knoxville, Tennessee, revealing that he had plotted to murder FBI special agents. Although Kelley’s team argued that Trump’s blanket pardon should also apply to his murder plot, a federal judge sensibly ruled otherwise. Federal prosecutors called Kelley "remorseless" in his efforts to kill agents, including by strategizing ways to bomb the FBI Knoxville office, creating a hit list, conducting combat drills to realize his plan, and forming a self-styled militia to attack FBI agents. They added that he "committed crimes that are serious, violent, and all designed to achieve the same end: the murder of federal, state, and local law enforcement." Co-conspiracist Austin Carter, who pled guilty, is set to be sentenced next month. Who wants to place bets on future Trump pardons for these bestial enemies of the state?

Pentagon now claims Trump's strikes set back Iran nuclear program "one to two years"
Wait, what happened to "completely and totally obliterated?" Oh, also, Iran just announced it is formally suspending cooperation with the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog, a move that officially blocks the International Atomic Energy Agency from inspecting Iranian nuclear facilities. Congratulations, Donald. You've all but guaranteed a nuclear-armed Iran.
