Hey John -

Happy Father's Day to all who celebrate! And thank you to everyone who attended our Juneteenth [[link removed]] event this past Friday. It was incredible to hear from Delegate Joshua Cole [[link removed]] and award winning author Tope Folarin [[link removed]] , followed by productive and enlightening discussion. The work is ongoing and we continue to strive to uplift, contribute to, and further the liberation of Black communities. Keep up the work and keep going.

This past week has been one of pain and celebration for many in our country. President Trump signed an executive order allowing doctors to discriminate against LGBTQ+ people on the eve of the Obergefell v. Hodges anniversary, the Supreme Court decision that legalized same-sex marriage in 2015. The president also held a campaign rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 20th, which was originally scheduled for Juneteenth. In 1921, the Tulsa Race Massacre [[link removed]] occurred in the Glenwood neighborhood of Tulsa. Deputized armed White civilians attacked Glenwood--the location of Black Wall Street and a thriving Black community--where 1256 homes were burned down, 215 homes were looted, and more than 36 people were killed. The president's actions this week are not accidental and speak to the epidemic of hatred in our country.

Earlier this week, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) weighed in on DACA, deciding that the President’s executive order allowing the deportation of DACA recipients is unconstitutional. We celebrate the relief of the adults, parents, and children that remain protected by DACA. SCOTUS also ruled the Equal Protections Act protects LGBTQ+ from workplace discriminations, which also challenges the previous announcement by the Trump adminstration on rolling back LGBTQ+ healthcare protections and many organizations are suing to ensure LGBTQ+ rights are protected [[link removed]] . Again, this Friday we celebrated Juneteenth, now an increasingly celebrated holiday across the US. Juneteenth commerates June 19th, 1865, when the last enslaved Africans in Galveston, Texas found out more than 2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation that they were finally free. These events remind us of the love and communities we fight for and seek to uplift.

AYD encourages everyone to continue to fight for the rights and protections of vulnerable people. As an organization we will maintain our work and efforts to make sure every voice is heard and to end the atrocities of racism and bigotry. Reflecting on the past week, we recognize we live in a world that toes the line of love and hate. We encourage everyone to work a little harder on integrating anti-racist ideologies into their everyday lives.

Here are this week’s upcoming events, our AYD Resource Guide: Challenge Racial Injustice [[link removed]] , and additional important information.
