The past is the future.
 
When times are hard for me, I often think back to the stories told to me by my dad and my granny, both of whom lived through some of the roughest eras in modern America. Their matter-of-fact retellings have frequently inspired me.
 
Today's article made me think of them and the lessons they shared with me.
