Just before her first birthday, Hailey developed unexplained bruises and began to cry when lying on her back. The symptoms persisted, and her mom took her to the pediatrician for testing. A blood test confirmed abnormal cells.
Hailey was rushed to the hospital where her parents’ worst fears came true. It was cancer: the #1 illness wish kids have to fight. She had tumors throughout her nervous system. When chemo failed, the next step was for Hailey to receive stem-cell transplants. |
By the second round of stem-cell transplants, Hailey’s whole
body teetered on the verge of failing. But then, she very slowly
began to recover. After a year of surgeries, chemotherapy,
radiation and immunotherapy, the tumors that had taken over
Hailey’s tiny body finally began to shrink.
Hailey had been through so much. She needed something positive to look forward to: a granted wish made possible by people like you who care about children fighting critical illnesses.
More children like Hailey are waiting right now for their moment of healing and hope. 40 kids are added to our wish lists every day. Please give now to help a wish to come true. |
A wish can create a turning point and give kids a better shot at recovery. |
Hailey is currently in remission and enjoying being a kid for now. But her family knows her cancer could come back at any time. So when brainstorming wishes, Hailey and her family agreed that what they needed most was time together.
The cost of her medical care made it impossible to afford things like going to the zoo or taking swimming lessons. Donations to grant wishes helped make sure Hailey and her family got to enjoy activities like these and more — precious time together to make memories.
This is the special role that wishes play when a child is fighting
critical illness. A wish gives a kid a reason to hope … a chance
to love and live fearlessly — as every child deserves to. Wishes
can even create a turning point in their recovery. So please, help another child experience the life-changing joy that only a wish can bring by making a gift today.
Wishfully,
Make-A-Wish® |
