Allegheny County reopened its juvenile detention center last year hoping to avoid mistakes that led to its 2021 decertification and closure. This summer, county leaders are taking a step toward preventing future problems at the lockup ([link removed]) , which is now run by a private nonprofit.

County officials are appointing an independent advisory board to monitor the facility’s safety and services ([link removed]) .
