Friend, Everyone likes to talk about how divided we are in America — how we’re more polarized than ever before. But a recent poll shows that 80% of Americans agree on this one important issue. That's right - 80 percent. An overwhelming majority. And what was it they agreed on? That things are "out of control" in America right now. Friend, I've got to tell you - I'm part of that 80 percent. And if you have been watching the news, I have a feeling you are, too. But I'm not despairing. I'm doing something about it: I'm running for Congress in my hometown district in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. And I'm writing to you today to ask you to join me in doing something about it, too. But before I ask you, I should probably give you a little bit of background on why I think things are so out of control. ----- The biggest political problem in the United States of America right now isn't what we think it is. It's not Antifa or unemployment - it's not even the coronavirus pandemic. The biggest political problem in America right now is the complete and total failure of leadership we've seen in Congress. We're almost blind to the problem at this point because our expectations are so low. We don't expect politicians to lead in a crisis. We don't expect them to listen to us. We don't even expect them to tell the truth anymore. Friend, I cannot tell you how sad that makes me. This is America - the land of the free. The greatest country on Earth. The shining city on a hill - a beacon of hope for the free world. We deserve better than what we've seen in Washington. Congress should exemplify leadership, courage, and service — not dysfunction, gridlock, and incompetence. The American people sent that message when we elected President Trump. I worked in South Carolina to help him win in 2016, and everyone was saying the same thing: we are sick of politicians. We want something completely different. And yet Washington still hasn't listened. Congressional leadership seems more focused on stopping the President than helping Americans. I, for one, have had enough. We need real leadership in Congress. It's time to flip the House and fire Nancy Pelosi. And I'm going to do it personally - by winning my home district in South Carolina's Lowcountry BACK from the Democrats. We need to send a new Nancy to Congress. As a conservative activist, I bet you get a lot of emails from different candidates running for office. And for us to achieve our goals, we need to be tactical about what races we focus our efforts on - more on that in a moment. But it's not just about flipping districts. WHO we're sending to Washington matters. We can't have one more Republican who caves the moment they have to stare down the Democrats, or the media. We need leaders with some backbone. So let me introduce myself to you because, Friend, I am DEFINITELY a woman with backbone. A lot of politicians pretend to be something they aren’t to get elected. That’s not me — I’ll always be honest about who I am and what I stand for. Here’s what you need to know about me — I am: - a proud Southern woman (I was a waitress at the Waffle House in South Carolina!)
- a one-time high school dropout and a strong believer in second chances and the American dream
- a patriot from a strong military family
- an entrepreneur, businesswoman, and best-selling author
- a supporter of President Trump
- a fiscally conservative legislator in the South Carolina State House
- mother of two incredible kids, Miles and Elli, 13 and (just turned!) 11 years old
But when you search my name on the Internet, you'll find out pretty quickly what I'm best known for: I was the first female graduate of The Citadel, the military college of South Carolina. I don't need to tell you that a military academy makes you tough. But what they don't always tell you is HOW it makes you tough. It's not just the high standards, the grueling physical regimen, or the competition with your peers. It’s all a part of the process. It’s relentless. It's widely known that we are TOUGH on our cadets, because we want them to be mentally TOUGH when they face real danger. Not only was I the first woman to attend The Citadel, my brigadier general father was appointed Commandant of the Corps during my second year. Let’s just say it didn’t make me popular. They might as well have painted a target on my back! Trust me - they never let up. And, honestly, I'm thankful for it. It gave me the strength for everything else I've faced in my life. Starting my business, writing my book, fighting for lower taxes in the South Carolina Legislature - The Citadel gave me the strength to tackle it all. So if the media or my opponent thinks they can bully me, well - they've got another thing coming. And I know I'll face their endless criticism, because I just don't fit their narrative. A trailblazing woman and a conservative Republican? A young, single mom who supports President Trump? Washington won’t know what hit them! But you can have faith that I’ll know how to stand up to them. If there’s one thing my life tells you, it’s that I never give up, even in the face of opposition. You don’t have to take my word for it. I’ve been honored to win the endorsements of so many conservative patriots who have stepped up and made their voices heard in my race: - VP Mike Pence
- Sen. Mike Lee
- Sen. Rand Paul
- Rep. Kevin McCarthy
- Rep. Steve Scalise
- Rep. Elise Stefanik
- National Rifle Association
- Americans for Prosperity
- Club for Growth PAC
- 50+ local leaders in SC
And, of course - President Trump himself. Here’s what he said when he endorsed me: All of these patriots have stepped up to support my campaign because they know I will go to Washington to defend the needs of the Lowcountry....but that’s not the only reason why they support me. Remember when I said conservatives needed to be tactical with how we approach this election? See, all of these conservative superstars jumped into the fray not just because of who I am - it’s also because the fate of the House might just hinge on my race. South Carolina’s First Congressional District shouldn't be in the hands of Democrats right now. In fact, it's absolutely nuts that it is. SC-01 was a red seat for FORTY YEARS before Democrat Joe Cunningham snatched it out from under us. And let me tell you: Joe Cunningham and I couldn’t be more different. He’s been consistently far-Left since taking office. He even voted twice to impeach President Trump despite the fact that our district went for Trump by 13 points in 2016! Let me tell you: I’m no Joe Cunningham. I care about preserving our freedoms, lowering our taxes, creating jobs, serving our veterans, protecting the unborn, and preserving the Lowcountry’s natural beauty. But the real reason I'm running can be summed up in just two words: Miles & Elli. Those are my two kids, ages 11 and 13. They have been champs on the campaign trail with me. I won’t sugarcoat it: the nights have been long and hectic as I balance being a full-time mom and a full-time candidate. There are days I wonder if I really can do both. But then I remember: I’m a candidate BECAUSE I’m a mother. Because if there is one thing I want to provide for my kids, it’s this: to grow up in a country as prosperous and freedom-filled as I did. I see the tumult on the news today and it makes me sick to my stomach - what will the world be like when my children are adults? Will they have the opportunities I had? Have we preserved our Constitutional liberties for them, and their kids? For the first time in my life, I'm actually not sure. And that terrifies me.... It's why I am asking you for your help now. It’s time for patriots like you and me to step up, for the sake of our kids and grandkids. America is on a precipice. We need to flip Congress and bring real leadership to Washington before it’s too late. It’s a tall order, but it starts with this: make one donation in one critical race to a leader who will really, truly bring leadership to Washington. I’m writing to you today to tell you that woman is me. I will fight for our country, for our values, and for our children and grandchildren. Are you with me? Then please, donate to my campaign today. I appreciate you reading my whole letter, Friend. Thank you for your time.
