Dear John,
People in our community are paying too much at the grocery store. I know all of us are worried about the rising cost of groceries and everyday goods, and Republican cuts to food assistance programs are only going to make it harder for many families in our community to meet their basic needs.
Recently, Republicans voted to cut the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as SNAP, by $300 billion, taking food off the table for thousands in the Inland Empire, including women, children and veterans. Under this bill, thousands of our friends and fellow Californians are going to suffer—all to pay for massive tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. The same corporations ripping people off at the grocery store would be rewarded by these cuts, while people across the Inland Empire go hungry.
I worked with Mother’s Nutritional Center in San Bernardino to fight back against these devastating cuts and highlight how people in our community would be negatively impacted. Mother’s Nutritional Centers are important community anchors for our friends and neighbors who rely on basic needs programs like SNAP to feed their families each week.
I will continue to fight against these cuts to basic needs programs and do everything in my power to ensure that families in the Inland Empire are able to afford healthy meals and thrive.
Thanks,
Pete Aguilar
