John,
Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is forcing the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) to eliminate 47– an arbitrary quota chosen as an ode to the 47th president– gun restrictions and regulations by July 4th. Stripping the rules that protect lives from gun violence on Independence Day is a slap in the face to all of us. This isn’t just dangerous, it’s anti-American.
The majority of Americans agree we need stricter gun laws, yet this administration is hacking away at common-sense gun policies. The majority of Americans agree that it is too easy to obtain a firearm, yet Trump and his cronies are making it easier for people to buy guns. We cannot allow so-called “government efficiency” to outweigh our voices: Add your name to Brady’s urgent petition to protect common-sense gun regulations and prove that DOGE’s agenda is not what Americans want. >> [[link removed]]

Trump is doing the gun lobby’s bidding by making the ATF powerless against gun dealers –– and changing upward of forty-seven regulations is just the beginning. The ATF is facing massive funding cuts, forcing the agency to reduce the number of inspectors from over 800 down to nearly 350 – a staggering two-thirds decrease . Without inspectors to hold gun dealers responsible, bad actors will keep doing business without consequences.
One mandate on the DOGE chopping block is the Firearms Transaction Record, which includes a critical questionnaire that indicates if buyers are at high risk of harming themselves or others. This document is not only vital to criminal investigations of both gun dealers and purchasers, but gutting it will make it significantly easier for dealers to sell a weapon to unfit buyers. In short, crime and violence will rise.
The ATF is the only governmental agency enforcing crucial gun-industry regulations and the legislation responsible for historic declines in gun crimes. Targeted cuts will make it nearly impossible for the ATF to do its life-saving work. With no controls, anyone will be able to get their hands on guns, and none of us will be safe.
This is the Trump administration, and its internal enforcers at DOGE, ignoring popular opinion on gun regulations to meet their political agenda and appease the gun industry. We cannot keep letting Trump politicize policies that save lives: Sign your name to prove that fewer gun regulations are not what Americans want. >> [[link removed]]

We know that these small revisions have grave consequences. It’s why 91% of Americans support the background checks that Trump is trying to undo. We deserve a government that protects us, not that trades our safety for gun lobby profits.
