[link removed] [[link removed]] John,
I wanted to reach out today about Eric Trump’s recent interview with the Financial Times , where he made some claims about his family’s business that simply cannot go unanswered.
Here’s what he said:
“ If there’s one family that hasn’t profited off politics, it’s the Trump family. In fact, I would sit there and say that we [would have] had many more zeros behind our name had my father not run in the first place. The opportunity cost, the legal cost, the toll it’s taken on our family has been astronomical.”John, as the VP of Research at CREW, I know the Trump family business ventures—and their notorious profiteering—like few others do.
I’ve spent more than six years meticulously tracing the conflicts of interest that have come out of President Trump’s failure to divest from his businesses and his obvious efforts to squeeze as much money out of his time in politics as possible.
So when Eric Trump claimed that the Trump family was actually losing money on Trump’s time in office, that really got under my skin.
The facts—that CREW has helped uncover—speak for themselves. Here’s just a sampling of the headlines:
* Trump’s finances were shaky, until he began to capitalize on his comeback ( New York Times [[link removed]] )
* Trump Store launched 168 products to profit off presidential transition period ( CREW [[link removed]] )
* Donald Trump’s net worth skyrockets to $5.1 billion, doubles in a year fueled by Truth Social and crypto ( Economic Times [[link removed]] )
* Twenty Trump-branded real estate projects will be developed in foreign countries during Trump’s presidency ( CREW [[link removed]] )
* In his first term, Trump reported making more than $1.6 billion in outside revenue and income ( CREW [[link removed]] )
You can read the whole interview here [[link removed]] , if you’re interested. But suffice it to say, Eric Trump is dead wrong about the Trump family losing money on politics.
Trump is the most corrupt president in US history, accumulating thousands of conflicts of interest and doubling his net worth since the end of his first term.
The Trump family is not being persecuted, they are being held accountable for blatant corruption. If they didn't want to face criticism for their conflicts of interest, Trump could have divested from his businesses when he took office.
At every opportunity, the Trump family has failed to put ethics concerns to rest and have only escalated their efforts to get even richer on the basis of Trump’s political power.
That’s not how things are supposed to work in our democracy.
CREW has played a central role in uncovering Trump’s profiteering and we will not stop that work until Trump stops his corruption.
