John,
The AI provision buried in Trump’s “Big Beautiful” budget bill just got slightly scaled back, but make no mistake, it’s still a dangerous attack on your state’s right to protect you.
Instead of a 10-year ban on state and local AI laws, Senate Republicans are now pushing a five-year ban with vague exceptions that sound more like loopholes than protections.
Even this watered-down version would still override existing laws in states like California, Illinois, New York, and Maryland and block states from enacting any new protections against deepfakes, discrimination, surveillance, and AI-generated harm. We can't allow the GOP to let Big Tech and billionaire donors write the rules.
Sign the petition now to demand Senators remove the AI regulation ban from the budget reconciliation bill.
From protecting voters from deepfakes to stopping AI-driven discrimination in hiring, housing, and health care, state governments are often the first and only responders. We can’t let Congress tie their hands.
Major voices are speaking out against this ban, including the ACLU, NAACP, 40 state Attorneys General, and even some Republicans in Congress (including Marjorie Taylor-Greene). We all agree: Congress cannot shut down states’ ability to respond to the real harms of AI.
Are you with us? Sign on now to ask your Senators to prevent the AI regulation ban from passing.
Thanks for taking action,
Democratic Values
