Yesterday, the Senate passed Donald Trump’s spending bill, bringing it one step closer to passage.

Let’s be clear, John: this bill is an attack on everyone who’s not making half a million dollars or more a year – in other words, all of us.

This would be the largest transfer of wealth from the poor and working class to the rich few in our history.

To make way for tax cuts for folks who don’t need them, at least 17 million people will lose healthcare coverage, and millions more will lose food support and have to go hungry.

And Republican lawmakers have addressed this by saying we’ll “get over it”, and “we’re all going to die.”

This is pure evil cruelty, and it should never have to be this way, John.

As Controller, I saved our state more than $7.5 billion in real, unauthorized, and wasteful spending in California. We never kicked anyone off of their healthcare or forced anyone to go hungry to do it.

Our campaign is about identifying the real actions I can take on day one when I’m elected as governor, and top of that list is pushing back against Trump’s wars on the working class and California.

Just as I did as Controller when I stood up to Trump’s Administration defiantly against its “Drill, Baby, Drill” oil agenda, I am ready to act quickly, aggressively, and smartly in protecting California from Trump and Republicans’ worst. I will find ways to stave off the effects of their hateful attacks on everyday people while continuing work to make housing, health care, and electricity more affordable.

But John, the bill isn’t through the House yet. We still have one, final chance to make our opposition heard and felt.
