Dear John,
Each year, at least 60 million chickens suffer in the supply chain of Compass Group USA, the nation's largest foodservice provider. These innocent animals are in dire need of your aid, and every moment is critical.
Compass Group—which serves a vast network of major universities, hospitals, and stadiums—pledged to stop sourcing chickens bred to grow unnaturally large abnormally fast. Known as Frankenchickens, these birds endure intense suffering. Lameness, joint pain, heart disease, and organ failure are common.
While Compass Group has announced a timeline and targets for phasing out fast-growing breeds, real change requires concrete steps—like securing and publicizing partnerships with producers specifically for sourcing chicken meat from higher-welfare breeds. Compass Group has yet to demonstrate the level of action needed to match the urgency of the problem.
