Last week was huge. After more than a year of work, the Housing Not Handcuffs Act was introduced in Congress. This is the first Congressional bill aimed at stopping federal agencies from treating homelessness as a crime. Click here to learn more about the Housing Not Handcuffs Act.
Now that the bill is official, we need your help to pass it. Please take two minutes to use this link to email, call, and tweet at your Congressmembers.
On Saturday, we released a new report tracking the growth of and growing unpopularity of laws that make it a crime to be homeless. Below are a few highlights:
320 laws that make it a crime to be homeless have been introduced since Grant's pass.
45 out of 57 state-level anti-homeless laws- nearly 80%- were defeated.
Most people agree that housing, not handcuffs, is the only real solution to homelessness.
We hope that you can join us in DC on the evening of Monday, November 18th for our annual awards and celebration. Please stay tuned for more information.
