Friend,

Trump and his minions have done it. They threatened, cajoled, promised, and made special “sweetheart deals” to force the passage of the “One Big Beautiful Bill”. They believe that if they promote it incessantly with the most flattering and flowery language, you won’t actually comprehend what it says and what it does. That you cannot follow the logic or the money to know what a “Big Ugly Betrayal” it truly is.

I have too much respect for you to believe that.

Let me summarize as clearly as I can what is at stake: Coupled with Trump's draconian policies, this budget will cause massive economic pain for Americans. It harms those with student loan debt, while reversing progress created for educational opportunities.

It cuts access to healthcare, food assistance, and green energy jobs that will strengthen our economy and protect our planet.

It hurts our veterans to whom we owe so much, and turns its back on our rural communities where hospitals will close and services will wither and disappear.

While Trump and his band of sycophants are touting this legislation as some great cost-savings for the nation, the truth is that it massively increases the U.S. debt. It shells out tax cuts for the ultrawealthy who don’t need them and won’t even really notice them, while cutting everything from healthcare to food assistance for the most vulnerable in our society.

It will increase the federal deficit by at least $3.3 trillion, and reduce the amount of revenue the country collects for decades. Making the 2017 tax cuts permanent, and adding additional tax cuts – both things the Administration and Republicans want to do – will balloon the national debt to twice the size of the American economy over the next 30 years with no relief in sight.

It is truly sickening.

There is a reason the American people oppose this legislation 2 to 1. We are not fools. Clever branding, magical math, and word-smithing cannot hide the fact that this bill does nothing but put lipstick on a pig.

The last chance to stop it is upon us now as it returns to the House for final consideration. Contact members of the House and register your disapproval before their final vote. Call it what it is: One Big Ugly Betrayal. Of the trust the voters place in their elected representatives and of the American Dream.

Thank you,

Dick
