It’s Father’s Day today, yet this Father’s Day is different,
John.

Our country is in the middle of a racial reckoning. A multiracial
multi-generational movement has formed to protest the murders George
Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Rayshard Brooks and demand not just police
accountability and criminal justice reform, but also an end to white
supremacy and structural racism built into all American institutions.

DFA members have been joining Juneteenth events all weekend, and now, this
Tuesday, we can advance the cause of change another step by electing two
powerful men of color as the Democratic nominees in Kentucky and New York:

School teacher and principal Jamaal Bowmen
running for U.S. House of Representatives
against a 30-year incumbent corporate Democrat

KY State Senator Charles Booker
running for U.S. Senate and the right to
take on Mitch McConnell in November

Booker and Bowmen have the endorsements of Elizabeth Warren, Bernie
Sanders, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez because they know these progressive
men of color will be some of the most powerful champions for the Green New
Deal and for racial and economic justice we’ve ever had in Washington.

A month ago, their opponents and the establishment wrote off Charles and
Jamaal, but now polls are showing them each in a neck-and-neck race. Their
opponents and corporate donors are running scared and flooding the
airwaves with millions of dollars in racist attack ads to try to slow down
their momentum.

Charles and Jamaal rose as contenders through grassroots campaigning --
everyday people making calls to voters or chipping in a couple bucks --
and that’s the way we’re going to overcome this onslaught of last minute
attacks and send these visionary leaders to Congress.

George Floyd and Rayshard Brooks don’t get to spend this Father’s Day with
their children. That right was taken from them by a system built on and
dominated by white supremacy and structural racism.

We’re working to change it using every pressure point possible, from
rallies and demonstrations to petitions and calls to candidates and
elections.

The energy this weekend has been powerful. The movement is building. And
we must work to keep that energy rolling through Tuesday in support of
these phenomenal candidates over the crucial final days of their primary
campaigns.

Change is coming as long as we don’t stop fighting for it.
