Thank you for showing up for Pride!
We had a beautiful presence in the Resistance Contingent at the very front of the parade, showing our commitment to protecting our LGBTQ+ members, friends, and loved ones. Special thanks to those among you who volunteered to help us keep things safe and orderly by being a contingent monitor.
You can find photos of the event at Pro Bono Photo.
The Big Ugly Bill Update: Phone Bank to stop reconciliation in the House
The Big Ugly Bill narrowly passed the Senate with Vance breaking the tie. Although some atrocious provisions were removed, the bill still cuts Medicaid and drastically increases funding for ICE. Passage of this bill will still close rural hospitals and deprive the poor of services, while its transfer of wealth to the rich poses serious dangers to our economy across the board. This is a dangerous moment - but we still need to fight.
The bill now faces consideration in the House. It can still be defeated, and we need to urge our Representatives to do everything possible to stop it. We also need to continue phonebanking to red states to get voters there to call their representatives to stop the bill.
The Big Ugly Bill is highly unpopular, and most voters as well as politicians agree that it is a terrible policy. It is taking all of Trump’s political capital and authoritarian power to get it passed. We need to do everything possible to defeat it.
Call your House Representatives and tell them: do everything in your power to stop the budget reconciliation bill.
Phone Bank with People’s Action Institute: RSVP on Mobilize.

Tell your MoCs: Hold hearings on new ICE concentration camps
As masked goons—who, at least some of the time, are ICE agents—snatch people off of our streets and take them who-knows-where, the Trump/MAGA regime has been scaling up their detention and deportation capabilities to process the sheer numbers of people they’re grabbing.
One example is the new “Alligator Alcatraz” facility in the Everglades, which is already on the verge of opening and where Trump himself made a sadistic appearance yesterday. Trump talked about the native wildlife in the protected habitat as a lethal threat to the immigrants held there.
Our Members of Congress—especially Senator Padilla, the ranking member on the committee that oversees ICE—need to use their powers to the fullest to limit the worst of what is already a campaign of brutality and which will surely get worse over the next three years.
Call your Members of Congress and tell them: hold hearings on the ICE detention camps!
Support a Judiciary with Spine - Protect the Rule of Law
We are starting a new group to support lawyers, judges, and any legal professional endangered by the intimidation and open interference in the judicial processes.
We want to organize a series of community events and meetings, discussing and educating the public on the critical role of the Rule of Law and a "Judiciary with Spine." These are critical not only for our constitutional rights, but also for everyday life, food safety, rent control, consumer protection, labor safety and rights. We want to collaborate with existing organizations and initiatives of lawyers and judges and organize visible public support for law professionals under attack from Trump and his administration.
Please join #judiciary on Slack, or respond to this email, so we can send you the Zoom link for our initial planning and strategy meeting Thursday, July 3, 6-7 PM.
Direct Action Event Monitoring: We need your help!
At every protest, we always want as many safety monitors as we can get to help keep our actions peaceful. And that’s never been more true and more important than at this month’s No Kings march, where roughly 100,000 people filled the streets.
We’ll have more protests in the future. Please volunteer to be a safety monitor for our next action. We can train you—it takes about 90 minutes. It's a simple, usually fairly chill, and essential job that helps keep our actions safe for all participants.
As pro-democracy, anti-authoritarian movements depend on nonviolence for success and as the US movement grows and potentially provokes authoritarian backlash, we encourage you to join in this vital work at our future actions. Read more on our blog.
When you see a call for volunteers for our events, please sign up as an event monitor. And, join #direct_action if you’re on our Slack.
Want to help us do this work?
We will plug you in where your skills can do the most good to resist this administration.
If you would like to join and do important work with us, we welcome you! Currently we are in need of volunteers to help with the following:
- Editing submissions to our newsletter (Mondays and Tuesdays).
- Publishing our newsletter with MailChimp and helping update our website on Newsletter Night (Tuesdays at 5 PM).
- Making short-form videos to help educate people on our topics in an accessible way.
- Tracking federal, state, and local legislation and working with our state and local legislatures and Mayor Lurie.
- Organizing our protests and other in-person actions and scheduling our in-person meetings.
No experience is needed; we will train you and provide everything you need. If you would like to help us, please contact us at [email protected].
