Demand your member of congress vote no on the budget bill!
|
Dear Friend,
You’ve probably heard some — or a lot — about the budget bill moving through Congress right now. It just passed the Senate and is now in the House. It’s terrible for so many reasons — and this is our final opportunity to stop it.
Whether you’re reading this in L.A., Omaha, Boston, or anywhere else in the U.S., most folks want a government that helps us care for each other and protect our freedoms. But this bill turns our government into a weapon against our people and the planet, robbing us of so many of the protections we hold dear. With giveaways and tax cuts to corporations and the ultra-wealthy, this bill lets billionaires rob us of everything “we the people” have created to care for our communities.
Just a few of the worst parts of the bill:
- It takes money away from folks who need public services the most by doing things like cutting health insurance1 and food assistance programs,2 and instead gives a handful of already wealthy people massive tax cuts.
- It gives Big Polluters what they’ve been wanting since they poured billions into electing Trump: it attempts to slowly kill renewable energy3 and open public lands for even more extraction of oil and gas.4
- It adds an extra $30 billion to the budget for ICE, the agency abducting our neighbors, terrorizing our families, and tearing our communities apart. And it sets aside $45 billion for detention centers.5
We can’t let this dangerous budget go into effect. And time is ticking as the final bill is with the House, and the final vote could come any moment. Will you make a quick call to your member of congress and urge them to vote no?
