LULAC CONDEMNS PASSAGE OF HARMFUL SENATE BILL THAT THREATENS WORKING FAMILIES AND
TARGETS IMMIGRANTS ACROSS AMERICA
=================================================================================

Nation's Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Warns that "One Big
Beautiful Bill" Threatens Economic Stability and Deepens Inequality for Millions
of Americans

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) today
issued a strong statement of concern following the U.S. Senate's narrow passage
of the so-called "One Big Beautiful Bill," which advances sweeping tax cuts and
domestic policy changes that disproportionately harm working families, especially
the Latino community and millions of others who form the backbone of the American
economy.

"This bill, despite its name, is anything but beautiful for the people who do the
hardest jobs, contribute the most hours, and still struggle to make ends meet,"
said LULAC National President Roman Palomares. "Our nation's economy depends on
working families: Latinos, immigrants, and millions of others across this
country. They are teachers, nurses, construction workers, service industry
professionals, and small business owners. They do not need more barriers. They
need support."

The 50-50 vote, with Vice President JD Vance casting the tiebreaking vote, sends
the legislation back to the House with significant changes, including deep cuts
to Medicaid and a projected $3.3 trillion increase in the national debt. LULAC
warns that the bill represents a severe step backward for economic fairness and
stability, while giving disproportionate benefits to the wealthiest Americans.

"This bill sends one message loud and clear—if you are Latino, working-class, or
undocumented, you are not welcome here," says Juan Proaño, Chief Executive
Officer of LULAC. "It guts our nation's moral fabric by placing walls, weapons,
and fines where there should be help, hope, and humanity." LULAC calls on all
Americans to stand up and reject this legislation that threatens millions and
betrays our values as a nation of immigrants.

The measure passed by the U.S. Senate is a direct attack on the soul of America's
promise to immigrants and working families. This bill militarizes our border,
criminalizes the poor, strips away food and healthcare assistance, and punishes
Latino and immigrant families who contribute so much to our nation. It replaces
opportunity with oppression, turning schools, clinics, and communities into
places of fear.

"We are not opposing this measure out of partisanship," said Palomares. "We are
sounding the alarm because this legislation could break the very economic engine
that keeps America running. The Latino community is among the most vital and
fastest-growing contributors to the U.S. GDP. Yet, it will suffer
disproportionately under the weight of this bill's cuts and costs."

LULAC is calling on every American—regardless of political party or background—to
contact their elected officials in Congress and urge them to reject final passage
of this bill when it returns to the House for a vote. The organization emphasizes
that real economic policy must uplift, not punish, those who are doing the work
of keeping our country strong.

"We will not stop fighting," Palomares affirmed. "LULAC will continue to advocate
for policies that build a fairer, more equitable America—one where the promises
of the Constitution apply to everyone, not just the privileged few."
