John, the House might vote on Trump's disastrous budget bill as soon as today. This is an all-hands-on-deck moment – contact your representative now and urge them to vote NO >>
For more information on why we can't let this bill pass, you can read the email we sent you yesterday below:
TAKE ACTION: The Senate just passed Trump’s bill to gut healthcare and hand billionaires more tax cuts. Urge the House to REJECT this shameful bill >>
John, the Senate just jammed through Trump’s extremist budget bill on a razor-thin margin – 50 Senate votes with Vice President JD Vance breaking the tie. [1]
This disgraceful bill hands out massive tax breaks to billionaire donors while gutting programs that support our communities with basic needs, like Medicaid and food stamps, and pouring billions of dollars into Trump’s cruel anti-immigrant agenda.
It passed by one vote – and only because Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski cut a deal to shield her constituents from the worst of it, while the rest of us are left to suffer. [2] Think about that – the last senator they needed only agreed to pass the bill if it didn’t apply to her state! That kind of self-serving move shows how brutal this bill really is.
But we can still stop it. The House only passed an earlier version of this bill by a few votes – and the new version is even more extreme. Plenty of vulnerable House Republicans don’t want to go home and explain to constituents why they gutted healthcare just to make billionaires richer.
We can’t let Trump and his billionaire buddies destroy our healthcare and food assistance to fund their hateful agenda. Tell your representative to vote NO or face the consequences at the ballot box.
Here are some of the worst parts of Trump’s budget bill:
-
Cuts Medicaid by 18%, dropping 12 million people from coverage. [3]
-
Slashes food aid for families in need by 20%, with red tape that could leave over 2 million people unable to put food on the table. [4]
-
Repeals clean energy programs, adding new taxes on wind and solar and increasing our electricity bills by up to 10%. [5]
-
Extends Trump’s tax cuts for the ultra-rich, adding new loopholes for millionaires and billionaires – while working people get practically nothing. [6]
-
Pours tens of billions of dollars into Trump’s mass deportation machine, boosting ICE funding even as agents snatch people off the street in masks, refusing to identify themselves. [7]
This isn’t just bad policy – it’s the product of a corrupt system rigged to serve billionaires over the rest of us. It’s a glaring example of how big money distorts our democracy and enables a billionaire’s budget to steamroll through Congress.
That’s exactly why Common Cause fights against the corrosive influence of money in politics and corruption – so that we can stop legislation like this from becoming law.
And John, we’ve already proven that people power works. More than 74,000 calls and letters from Common Cause members forced the Senate to remove dangerous Big Tech provisions that would block states from building basic guardrails on artificial intelligence (AI).
Now it’s time to bring that same energy to the House. Take action today and share this email with 3 friends. Let’s flood the House with demands to reject this shameful bill.
Tell your representative: Constituents like me are watching. Reject this extremist budget that funds cruelty, slashes care, and sells out our democracy to the highest bidder.
Together, we can stop this brutal budget – and build a democracy that works for all of us, not just the wealthy and well-connected.
Thanks for all you do,
The team at Common Cause
