Dear Community Partner,

A wide range of factors are making it particularly difficult for homebuyers and renters to navigate today’s housing market. High mortgage rates, rising home prices, escalating insurance costs, an ongoing shortage of affordable housing options, and the pervasive effects of climate change are just a few of the challenges shaping the housing environment in 2025. The current landscape is further complicated by the scaling back of affordable housing initiatives, like down payment assistance, rental subsidies and social impact bonds, and proposed cuts to programs such as the USDA Rural Housing Program.

Join us on Thursday, July 17, for "Challenges and Solutions to Buying or Renting a Home in 2025," a free, 90-minute webinar that will take a close look at the significant hurdles both renters and potential homebuyers face as they struggle to secure affordable and suitable housing. Guest speakers for the webinar include Sharon Cornelissen, director of housing for the Consumer Federation of America; Shehryar Nabi, senior research associate at the Aspen Institute Financial Security Program; and Gabe del Rio, president, CEO and co-founder of the Homeownership Council of America.

The webinar will explore:

  • Whether there are opportunities for purchasers and renters in this mixed market, and what those are;
  • The role federal policies, such as the proposed cuts to HUD funding, play in exacerbating the housing crisis;
  • What steps, if any, can be taken to ensure that states and localities are equipped to handle the burden of housing assistance if federal funding is cut;
  • Whether climate change and disasters are exacerbating the existing housing crisis; and
  • How helping rent-burdened households transition to homeownership may contribute to upward economic mobility and strengthen communities.

Let's discuss!
