A consultation has been launched on the future of the
Capital Call scheme.
TfL are proposing to close Capital Call, an assisted
transport service that was set up in 2003 to supplement Taxicard, which is a
subsidised taxi and minicab service for people who have difficulty using public
transport.
Capital Call is available to Taxicard members (who
registered before 2015) who live in 10 London borough where there’s
historically been a shortage of available taxis.
Over time, the availability of taxis in all areas of London has increased and both Taxicard and Dial-a-Ride have developed sufficient capacity for all Capital Call journeys, so there isn’t the same case
now to operate the service as there was in 2003.
By closing Capital Call, funding into
other assisted transport services, including Dial-a-Ride, can be increased. The savings can also be used to further promote these services, and ensure more people are aware of
them and can use them.
