[1]U.S. Senator Chris Murphy
I just left the Senate, and I’m shaking with fury.
Republicans rammed through this moral abomination of a budget bill with a 50-50 vote and JD Vance breaking the tie. It’s the most monstrous piece of legislation I’ve ever seen Congress vote on.
Any one of the 50 Republicans who voted for it could have stopped this. Saved millions of parents from watching their child go hungry. Saved the lives destroyed when Medicaid disappears.
Within minutes of the bill passing, Lisa Murkowski told reporters, “My hope is that the House is gonna look at this and recognize that we're not there yet.” All reporting indicates that she was the final holdout that Republicans had to flip to yes, and now, she is saying that she doesn’t want this version of the bill to become law.
That’s bullshit. Her vote could’ve stopped this. They will all live forever with the horror of this bill.
I’m going to do everything I can to help mobilize people to stop this in the House before it’s too late, but no matter what, every Republican who voted for this billionaire tax break funded by medicaid cuts need to be held accountable.
So please, if you’re with me in this fight, make a contribution to our mobilization fund today. 100% of your donation will be put to work this year — organizing people across this nation who can hold Republicans accountable and stop the corruption.
Republicans know what they’ve done, and they simply do not care about you.
In Senate Republicans’ final speech about the bill, all they talked about was money for the border. The border is already militarized, and Trump has created an immigration police state.
This is the “win” that they’re proud of — funding new horrible, autocratic ideas for Donald Trump. Trump’s desire to end democracy and anoint himself king is painfully clear, and this funding will no doubt further his efforts to copy the playbook of dictators around the world — disappearing people and silencing dissidents.
Their focus on the border tells you everything you need to know. They know that the rest of this dumpster fire of a bill is indefensible.
They are going to kick 17 million people off their health care — meaning tens of thousands of Americans will either die or have their lives destroyed because they don’t have access to health care. Parents will have to watch their children starve after massive cuts to nutrition programs.
All of this to give the wealthiest people and corporations a tax cut that they don’t need.
All of it sucks. But we cannot give into hopelessness because that is what Trump wants — a demoralized opposition that is unable to mobilize against his corruption.
This is not done. We still have a chance to organize and stop it as it heads back to the House. And no matter what, I need your help to make sure that no Republican who voted for this gets away with it. So we need to mobilize people and get our message out — a big part of what went wrong this time is that, compared to 2017, not enough people understand what’s going on.
My mobilization fund is investing directly in the on-the-ground work we need to mobilize the American people against this bill. If you can, please consider making a contribution today to support our efforts and build an effective opposition to Trump’s billionaire takeover of our government. I cannot do this alone.
