Dear john,
Now that the Senate has passed their version of the "big beautiful" bill, I want to bring this horrific provision to your attention:
$1.1 trillion will be slashed for funding Medicaid, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act, meaning about 17 million Americans will lose their healthcare. Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania estimate that 51,000 people will die as a direct result of these cuts.
What do my Republican colleagues have to say about Medicaid cuts?
When it was brought to her attention at a town hall that slashing Medicaid would kill people, Senator Joni Ernst responded, "Well, we all are going to die."
In a meeting with his colleagues about the Medicaid cuts, Senator Mitch McConnell said, "I know a lot of us are hearing from people back home about Medicaid. But they’ll get over it."
During a floor speech leading up to the vote, Senator Thom Tillis said that "supporting the Senate [version] will hurt people who are eligible and qualified for Medicaid.”
As it comes back to the House for a vote, El Pasoans can count on me to vote to protect our healthcare.
