I’m pleading not guilty, and I’m fighting these charges tooth and nail.
Hi friends,
Let me say this directly: I will not be intimidated.
On May 9th, I joined Newark Mayor Ras Baraka and other elected leaders to demand answers at Delaney Hall, an ICE detention center in my district. We were there to do our jobs of oversight and constituent protection, a key role of Congress members in a functioning democracy.
Instead, federal agents escalated the situation by roughing up community leaders and threatening us for defending human rights.
Now, Trump’s former defense lawyer-turned-federal prosecutor is coming after me with baseless, politically motivated charges. They want to send a message to anyone who dares to challenge their agenda: stay silent, or face the consequences.
I’m pleading not guilty, and I’m fighting these charges tooth and nail. But legal battles like this are long and expensive, and that’s part of the playbook.
Thank you for standing with me,
Rep. LaMonica McIver
