Proposed by Senator Ted Cruz, this moratorium would’ve prevented states from regulating AI and protecting our communities from the devastating racial and gender bias embedded in government and corporate deployment of AI.
Though the moratorium was scrapped, the bill itself narrowly passed the Senate — also today — with Vance’s tiebreaker vote. If passed, it still threatens to expand funding for biometric surveillance, lining the pockets of Big Tech and AI corporations while further integrating this tech into local police departments and immigration operations.
We should hear the final decision in the coming days, and until then, we urge you to continue organizing against the bill and its massive investment in surveillance, deportations, and war.
