John,

After over 24 hours of debating and voting, the Senate has just passed Trump's Republican Rate Hike bill. Things are moving quickly – it’s going back to the House as soon as tomorrow.

Despite repeated warnings from every sector of the American economy, Senate Republicans have betrayed their own constituents in order to bail out the oil industry and hand out tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans. It’s hard to overstate just how destructive this piece of legislation is, as it:

* Will cause more frequent and severe blackouts across the country
* Drives up household electricity bills by more than $400 a year
* Kills hundreds of thousands of good-paying jobs

Even though this bill has yet to become law – and I’ll be in touch with updates as they come – we’re already starting to feel the impacts.

The mere prospect of this bill becoming law has already cost good-paying clean energy manufacturing jobs across the country, with more than 90,000 clean energy jobs lost or threatened this year. And some predict that number could climb as high as 1.7 million jobs in the years to come.

We’re sacrificing livelihoods to cede America’s leadership in the industries of the future, while giving handouts to the industries of the past: a lose-lose for everyone but the wealthiest Americans.

Here’s a glimmer of hope: it’s not too late to stop the madness. If House Republicans can see this bill for what it really is and find it in their heart of hearts to stand up for their constituents against Trump, we have a chance of undoing the damage.

But if we keep building our numbers in Congress, we won’t have to rely on razor-thin margins to protect our climate future. As we keep an eye on developments in the House, you can help us elect more clean energy champions in 2026 and beyond by chipping in today: [[link removed]]
