Gun violence continues to devastate Latine communities across the country — and a new report from the Violence Policy Center paints a heartbreaking and urgent picture of its impact.

According to the 2025 edition of Hispanic Victims of Lethal Firearms Violence, Latine people are nearly twice as likely to die by gun homicide as white, non-Hispanic individuals. The overwhelming majority of these victims are young, under 30, and most knew the person who took their life.

Some key findings from the report:

•   69% of Latine homicide victims in 2022 were killed with firearms
•   88% of victims knew their assailant
•   Young Latine men (ages 18–24) suffer the highest rates of gun homicide
•   States with the highest rates of gun homicide among Latine victims include New Mexico, Nevada, and Arizona

This crisis is not new — and it is not inevitable. Gun violence is a public health issue rooted in systemic inequities and disinvestment. We cannot afford to look away.

At Community Justice, we are committed to building safety with and for Latine communities by advancing community-led solutions that work. That includes advocating for:

•   Sustained CVI funding and infrastructure in communities most impacted
•   Culturally informed mental health and healing services and trauma recovery supports
•   Youth investment and economic opportunity that gives young people real choices
•   Organizing Latine leaders to build policy solutions relevant to the communities we support

This moment calls for action, investment, and accountability — not silence.
