Hi John. As you may know, the Senate just passed a major tax and budget bill. The House majority may also consider it soon, and it could quickly become law.
There's no question our tax system is unfair. It's rigged to benefit the wealthy instead of folks who work for a living. It's past time for both parties to fix this broken system.
But this bill isn't the answer.
It gives huge tax breaks to billionaires – while raising costs and cutting services for everyone else. It rips health care away from thousands of Kansans. It takes food off the tables of hardworking families. It means higher utility bills. And it blows up our debt and deficit.
But don't just take my word for it. Click here to learn more about what non-partisan experts are saying. Please feel free to forward this information to anyone you know, too.
I'm always ready to work with anyone -- in either party -- to make a difference for Kansans. That's why I'm supporting a separate comprehensive tax framework. It's focused on lowering costs, expanding economic opportunity, and promoting fiscal responsibility. Click here to learn more.
This budget isn't just out of touch. It's dangerous. It's irresponsible, and means higher costs for hardworking Kansans.
But again, don't just take my word for it. This is what experts who've studied the bill are saying:
· HIGHER Health Care Costs. More than 16,000 people in the Kansas Third could lose their health care under Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act. These cuts could also force rural hospitals to shut their doors.
· HIGHER Grocery Costs. 8,000 households in KS-03 could lose the emergency food help they rely on.
· HIGHER Deficits. This bill could add at least $5 trillion to national deficits through 2034.
· HIGHER Utility Bills. Energy prices for Kansas households could increase by 14 percent.
· LOWER Taxes for Billionaires. This extreme budget actually raises taxes on working families. At the same time, billionaires who already pay next to nothing would get even more tax giveaways.
Thankfully, this budget is not yet law. And I will fight it for as long as it takes. But the threat is real. In fact, it would mean the largest Medicaid and emergency food aid cuts in U.S. history.
I'm always ready to work with both parties to lower costs. But I won't hesitate for a second to stand up to this extreme legislation.
Please feel free to forward this information to anyone you know.
