The U.S. Senate just barely passed Trump’s so-called “Big, Beautiful Bill” — with a tie-breaking vote from J.D. Vance.

There’s absolutely nothing beautiful about this bill. One more Republican with a spine could have stopped this, and every single Senator who caved should be ashamed of themselves.

This bill slashes Medicaid and SNAP benefits and increases utility bills while giving massive tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations on the backs of the middle class. Seniors, families with children, and people with disabilities are going to feel this. It’s cruel. It’s selfish. And it’s exactly why our fight is so crucial.

In Illinois, we’ve done the work. We’ve expanded access to health care, raised the minimum wage, and protected reproductive freedom. But what we’re building at the state level is being threatened by what’s coming out of Washington.

That’s why I’m running for Senate: To stop bills like this. To defend our progress — and build on it.

We need new voices in the Senate. Voices that won’t back down from Trump’s cruel agenda. Voices that are not bought by corporate special interests. Voices that will stand up for working people.
