John,
On the first day of his second term, President Trump established the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, which he immediately set loose to cut billions of dollars of critical programs.
We conducted a review, and found that DOGE’s cuts at seven agencies alone have already cost more than 50,000 people their jobs and could also result in a loss of more than $10 billion in US-based economic activity.
Remind us again how that improves government efficiency?

Some of the programs Trump and DOGE are attempting to dismantle are designed to protect consumers from fraud, eliminate waste in government and prevent abuses of taxpayer resources.
Without these safeguards, the door opens for bad actors to manipulate government resources for financial benefit.
DOGE has taken aim at more than 30 agencies already, which will have untold consequences to the American economy and the everyday lives of American families.
For example, DOGE has effectively shuttered the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau—even though it has returned more than $26 billion to the American people since 2011, and only costs a fraction of that amount to run.
The IRS could lose an estimated $500 billion in incoming revenue this year alone due to cuts at the agency. You read that right: DOGE is costing the government half a TRILLION dollars.
Some of DOGE’s cuts will also harm public health.
Cuts to programs like HIV/AIDS prevention risks the lives of vulnerable populations abroad and come at steep cost. For example, preventing one person from being infected with HIV can save hundreds of thousands of dollars in lifetime costs.
Meanwhile, the administration announced $4 billion in cuts to funding for medical research through the National Institutes of Health, costing jobs and economic activity—not to mention the impact on our health.
DOGE appears to have little regard for these sudden cuts at key agencies or the impact this so-called efficiency will have on everyday people and our economy.
