My name is Deanna, and I'm one of Jamaal's sisters.

Today, I want to talk to you about Jamaal, and why I believe he is the best choice for Congress here in NY-16.

But before I do — can you make a contribution to Jamaal's campaign? With just 48 hours to go until the primary, his campaign is reaching out to the last remaining voters on their call lists and making their final digital ad buys:

I always knew Jamaal was exceptional. As someone who's known him his entire life, I can tell you with great confidence that he knows his strengths, he has a lot of ideas, and he always follows through.

But, until he announced that he was running for Congress last year, I didn't realize how much his leadership, his follow-through, and his ideas were needed on a greater scale.

Over the past three months, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, record unemployment, and police brutality in our streets — Jamaal has consistently shown up for our community here in New York's 16th District.

He's delivered meals and PPE to essential workers. Many times, he's picked up the phone to call voters, just to check in on what they need. He stood in solidarity with protestors calling for justice and peace, and proudly advocated for justice reform at all levels.

Above all, Jamaal has shown exceptional leadership during a time when our actual representative, Eliot Engel, was hiding from us, over 200 miles away in Maryland.

For 31 years, Eliot Engel has ignored our needs and taken us for granted. In the one time he's returned to the district after the coronavirus pandemic, he stated twice that he wouldn't care about us if he didn't have a primary coming up.

That's not the kind of leader we want representing us. Our leaders in Congress, including Eliot Engel, aren't speaking up for working families — and that needs to change, starting with New York's primary election on June 23.

I'm confident that Jamaal will make an exceptional leader for the people of New York's 16th District — and I know others see this, too. I hope you can help out Jamaal and his campaign in these final days with a contribution.

I am always proud of Jamaal and all that he brings to the table. Change. Progressive thinking. Moving mountains to make sure working-class families are treated fairly.

It is not lost on me what he can bring to Congress — and I know that, together, we can get him there.
