Since we started sheltering at home, I’ve been seeing a whole lot of my dad.
It’s been fun spending extra time together. We’ve been going on lots of walks with the dogs, and for my birthday he tried his best to bake me a cake (though he probably should leave the baking to me).
These last few months have been pretty eye-opening in other ways, too. I’ve had a close-up view to just how hard my dad works every day. I’ve watched him tackle the coronavirus pandemic, step up to lead the Task Force for Racial Equity in Criminal Justice, and fight for North Carolina’s best interests in everything from healthcare to consumer protection to Dreamers.
My dad has always been my biggest supporter (tied with my mom). He cheers for me on the lacrosse field, supports me in my academic efforts, and is always there when my two brothers and I need him.
This Father’s Day, it’s my turn to cheer for him. Thanks for inspiring me, Dad. I’m so proud of you.
Happy Father’s Day,
Leah Stein
