Hi Friend,
While Congress sprints to pass a major budget package that some lawmakers are calling a “Big Beautiful Bill, a dangerous provision was introduced in the Senate that would ban most state and local AI regulations. Senators made an attempt to bury the provision inside the massive budget package.
The provision would block states from protecting kids and communities from harmful AI systems. It’s a major giveaway to Big Tech — and a serious threat to public safety. [1]
But here’s a sign of progress: Senators Blackburn, Cantwell, and others have led the successful challenge of this provision in the Senate, generating a historic 99-1 vote to strike the 10-year ban. Senators have pulled their support, saying the damaging provision would let Big Tech companies keep exploiting kids. That’s huge, but it’s not enough. The ban could still be resurrected in the broader budget bill as it heads to the House. [2]
If we don’t act now, it could pass without a real debate.
Tell your lawmakers: strip the AI ban from the “Big Beautiful Bill.”
SEND A LETTER TO LAWMAKERS
We’ve already seen what happens when AI goes unchecked: exposure to harmful content, violations of privacy, and manipulation of vulnerable users. Locking in ten years of regulatory inaction would be a disaster.
Congress must do better. Lawmakers can support innovation without tying the hands of states trying to keep people safe. Urge Congress to oppose the AI regulation ban.
Let’s make sure lawmakers hear us loud and clear.
In solidarity,
