Friend,

This is Craig Brown, the co-founder of Common Dreams.

A little over a week ago, I wrote to you to share my thoughts on the future of Common Dreams, the nonprofit news outlet that I launched 25 years ago with my late wife, Lina Newhouser, and to ask you to donate to our Mid-Year Campaign.
Today, I’m writing to you again because our Mid-Year Campaign ends at midnight tonight, and we're significantly short of our target.
Over the years, Common Dreams has proven over and over again that if enough fired-up (and fed-up) people come together and demand real change, we can create an almost unstoppable force.

People laughed at us when we first demanded an end to America’s disastrous war in Iraq or warned that unchecked corporate power would lead to ruin. Hell, people laughed at us for thinking we could survive more than a few months as a reader-funded nonprofit news outlet.

Personally, my years in the progressive movement go back even further to the Vietnam War era. We were just kids then, and no one took us seriously except each other. But we made historic, monumental progress toward racial justice, gender equality, a cleaner planet, and so much more.

Of course, we’ve also suffered devastating defeats — in recent months in particular. And there's no guarantee that our past victories will last. You know that old saw about the arc of history bending towards justice? That’s only true if people keep pushing on that damn arc with all our might day after day, year after year.

But I’m truly afraid right now that all the progress we’ve made together is on the verge of being lost. That is not the world that we ever wanted to leave for our daughters or the future generations to come.

Which brings me to the reason I’m emailing you today.

We launched our Mid-Year Campaign with an ambitious goal of doubling our monthly donors by July 1 to give us the ongoing base of support we need to keep standing up to the rising fascists in the White House and around the world.

But with tonight’s midnight deadline looming, we still need to add at least 50 new monthly donors to remain on sound financial footing going forward.

Today I’m making a personal request of all our readers to please sign up as a monthly donor to Common Dreams. Whether you give $5 a month, $15, $17, $50, or more, it all adds up. We can’t afford for anyone to sit out. We need all of you. ([link removed])

P.S. If you want to support Common Dreams but aren't ready to make a monthly donation, you can also make a one-time donation here. ([link removed])
