Hi John,

First of all, thank you to everyone who pitched in to help us reach last night’s goal. I’m grateful to have you with me in this race.

Today I am emailing to wish you all a wonderful Father’s Day. For me, this is the first without my own father. And with my election on Tuesday, I can’t help but think of how excited and proud he would be to see how far our campaign has come since his visit in January, when he joined me and my team at a local political club meeting and afterward.

My father, a progressive liberal from Wisconsin, led by example. He was a teacher, a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, an avid gardener, and one of the most incredibly kind people I, and many others, have ever met. His kindness was inherently part of who he was -- and it’s something I’ve carried with me because he showed me that’s how you should be.

If he had been here today, I’d be giving him a call to check in, and I’d share the updates on our race -- how we’re just two points down and how hard our team is working to push us past the finish line into the general. He would be extraordinarily proud and would let me know it.

This Father’s Day, we celebrate fathers who have set positive examples, who provide and love. We celebrate the many father figures, those who have stepped up to fill the gaps, and those who have passed on.

To all the fathers, today we celebrate you. Thank you for the role that you play in empowering our next generation.

From my family to yours, Happy Father’s Day.

With gratitude,
Nancy
