In the Marine Corps, falling asleep at your post is one of the worst things you can do.

You sleep in turns. You watch over your buddies while they rest, and they do the same for you. Falling asleep during your watch betrays the trust of your fellow Marines. Puts everyone at risk when they depend on you the most.

I bring this up because we’ve had some late nights in the Senate lately. I’ve heard some complaining among my colleagues about that. But the people of my state put me in a position of trust, and I am not going to betray that trust.

Millions of people could lose their health care, their food stamps, even their jobs if the GOP passes Trump’s budget. They are depending on us right now. Arizona sent me here to fight, and that’s what I’m going to do.

I’m supposed to be on paternity leave right now, but instead I just brought my newborn Cooper on the floor of the Senate. There is nowhere I’d rather be than defending the people of this country, and now is no time to give up.

Semper Fi,

Ruben
