Supporting American Commodities
Last Thursday, I chaired the House Agriculture Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities, Risk Management, and Credit hearing on the U.S. Grain Standards Act. While much of the Act is permanently authorized, including mandatory inspection and weighing of exported grain, there are still key provisions that are set to expire this September. A lapse in authorization would disrupt the current process, potentially creating dramatic consequences for the U.S. grain industry.
Grain standards strengthen a key agriculture supply chain and ensure fairness for American Farmers. We had a very productive discussion highlighting the importance of grain standards and shedding light on areas where improvements may be necessary. I look forward to working with my colleagues to getting this vital piece of legislation across the finish line.
Providing for Servicemembers & Veterans, Protecting American Communities
Last week, I managed the rule for four different bills that passed the House of Representatives. The rule provides the framework for the way legislation is brought to the floor and considered.
- H.R. 3944, the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2026, provides significant investments and support for our veterans, servicemembers, and their families – as well as military construction.
- H.R. 875, the Jeremy and Angel Seay and Sergeant Brandon Mendoza Protect Our Communities from DUIs Act of 2025, named after three Americans who lost their due to crashes caused by illegal aliens, closes a loophole in U.S. immigration law and ensures that aliens who drive while intoxicated are inadmissible to, and deportable from the United States.
- H.R. 275, the Special Interest Alien Reporting Act of 2025, provides transparency and requires the Department of Homeland Security to publish a monthly report on the number of special interest aliens (individuals who pose national security threats due to travel patterns) attempting to enter U.S. and includes their encounter location and their country of origin.
- House Resolution 516, Condemning the violent June 2025 riots in Los Angeles, California, recognizes the right to protest peacefully but condemns the riots and violence against law enforcement.
These bills were all wins for the American people.
