Hello friend,

This weekend, on the eve of a critical United Nations conference, campaigners and activists in over forty countries marched to demand action on the debt crisis. In Seville, where the conference is being held, I joined thousands who took to the streets to make our voices heard.

The Financing for Development conference is a once in ten-year opportunity for lower-income countries to force the debt crisis onto the international agenda. But in the run up, the UK has played a shameful role, joining other rich countries to water down and then block urgent calls for action.

I’m appalled by this governments’ actions. But if anything has given me hope this weekend, it's been the sight of campaigners from countries around the world, including the UK, joining in solidarity to demand action on the debt crisis.

friend, watch and share the video showing how powerful we can be when we come together and demand our government do better.

The UK, EU, US and other wealthy nations tried to sabotage the proposal for a new global debt framework, and the US even walked out of pre-conference talks. Despite the shameful behaviour of rich countries, African and other lower-income countries managed to get references to debt justice laws and reform of the debt system into the agreement.

The fact that so many lower-income countries held the line on the urgent need for action, combined with the protests over the weekend, is a powerful message our government cannot ignore.

friend, will you help make the demands for debt cancellation even louder by watching and sharing the video?

If you joined us in London for our protest on the South Bank, thank you! ([link removed]) Not in a generation have so many people around the globe come together to demand action on the debt crisis.

It’s high time the government listened to the demands of lower-income countries, instead of trying to shut them down. It’s time to Cancel Debt, Choose Hope.

In solidarity,

Zak, Wiz, Eva and everyone at Debt Justice
