Today is Father’s Day!

I wish a very Happy Father’s Day to my father Zia and my husband Azhar.

My father made the difficult decision to leave his family and friends, and move to the United States in 1964 to pursue his doctoral studies in international politics. Because of him, I developed my own love for academic work and for the study of government.

Azhar and I moved to the Richmond area in 1991, and for the last 30 years, he’s been an amazing dad and a remarkable partner in my career as an educator and now a legislator. I couldn’t have asked for a better father for our two girls, both of whom seek him out every day for advice and support.

So today, let me wish a Happy Father’s Day to all the kind, caring, and loving husbands and fathers who support their families and loved ones.
