Hello Friends --
I hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy.
I know that many of you continue to feel anxious about the future. The lack of leadership from the White House certainly hasn't helped.
As upstate New York reopens, we must be reminded that leadership is within all of us. Each and every one of us can set an example for others to follow.
We wear masks because we love our neighbors and care about their health.
We support local businesses because we care about the prosperity of our communities.
We donate to local charities because we have empathy and compassion for those who are struggling and less fortunate.
We stand in solidarity with peaceful protesters calling for racial justice because we believe in the American creed that we are all created equal, and we are committed to achieving liberty and justice for all.
No single policy will undo centuries of institutionalized racism and systematic oppression, but with the House taking an important step in the right direction with the introduction of the Justice in Policing Act, I have hope for the future.
My colleagues and I have also been working hard to continue delivering relief and reform in the House. I helped introduce legislation
providing small businesses and nonprofits with tax credits to install personal protective equipment for workers’ safety as we reopen the economy.
We successfully made changes to the paycheck protection program
to ensure that small business owners and farmers in receipt of funds from the program can use the funds with more flexibility.
The work to protect our drinking water from PFAS contamination continues as well. Just this week, I introduced legislation with partners in the House tasking the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to test for PFAS contamination at their facilities and to establish transparency and plans to sanitize where needed.
I also proposed legislation to
boost funding for rural transportation, so folks in all communities have access to reliable public buses that increase accessibility and enable economic development.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen how essential broadband is, from homeschooling and telemedicine to small businesses and consumers making online purchases. We must make sure our communities have broadband, which is why I've
introduced legislation to help bring high-speed internet projects to our rural areas as soon as possible.
Lastly, today is Father's Day. So I'll be signing off to spend time with Lacey and our boys, but to all the families checking in, I hope you have a loving and relaxing Sunday.
With love,
Antonio
