Hi Team,

A few years after my mom left my biological father after years of abuse, she married my stepfather. He loved me as his own, and showed me that it takes more than just having kids to be a dad. He taught me that the warrior spirit wasn’t just for men, and to rise to a worthwhile challenge no matter how hard the fight might be.

My dad always had my back, until he was killed in a workplace accident when I was in college. His death is one of the many reasons I’m committed to fighting for workers' rights. Because of the safety standards won by the labor movement, fewer families have to go through the devastation mine did.

The other incredible father in my life is my husband, Brandon, who’s been by my side throughout this whole campaign. Running a Senate campaign in a state as big as Texas with a five-year-old and three-year-old isn’t easy, and it wouldn’t be possible without Brandon. Whether on the road with me and the boys, making sure they didn’t get into too much mischief while I was campaigning, or taking care of them at home while still working at his full-time job -- I couldn’t ask for a more loving father for my boys.

Together, with all of you, we’re fighting for a brighter future for our kids -- a planet that’s habitable, a society without the constant threat of gun violence, and a just world where the zip code you’re born in doesn’t determine the trajectory of your life.

Today, for Fathers’ Day, I wanted to say thank you to all of those fathers teaching their kids the value of hard work, grit, and fighting for what’s right -- and who are out there fighting for a better world for all our kids.
