Hi John - On this Father’s Day – as always – I find myself thinking about my own dad, Sargent Shriver. He devoted his life to fighting poverty and racial injustice. My dad was driven by his faith. His faith demanded acts of hope. That is why I am so hopeful about the day-to-day activism of our incredible community of supporters, like you. In response to the global pandemic, you have showed up for kids! You sent 87,275 messages to Congress to help the child care industry survive so parents can go back to work and their kids can continue preparing for kindergarten. As more children struggle with a lack of food, you generated 35,491 messages in support of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). You demanded that the right to asylum continues to be protected, especially for vulnerable children seeking safety in our country. Congress received 55,309 messages from our supporters about this issue. And you’ve turned our leaders’ attention to the plight of the world’s most vulnerable children, including refugees and girls. Supporters sent 25,551 messages to Congress urging them to fund a strong international response. Our powerful network of volunteers organized close to 50 virtual lobbying visits with members of Congress. Our local staff organized online trainings to train our volunteers about how to be effective activists, even during a pandemic. |
