Republicans sue Arizona to block voting by some U.S. citizens

- The Republican National Committee (RNC) and the Republican Party of Arizona sued ([link removed] ) the Arizona Secretary of State Monday over a law that lets U.S. citizens born abroad vote in Arizona elections based on their parent’s registration in the state.

- Republicans signaled there are more lawsuits to come. “This action is part of the RNC’s nationwide legal strategy to clean up voter rolls and ensure that only eligible voters cast ballots in American elections,” the RNC said.

DOJ appeals ruling against Trump order targeting law firm Perkins Coie

- The DOJ said ([link removed] ) it will appeal a ruling against President Donald Trump’s executive order targeting Perkins Coie, a law firm that has represented his political opponents, including those challenging his effort to overturn the 2020 election.

Judge strikes down Trump order targeting law firm Susman Godfrey

- A federal judge on Friday struck down ([link removed] ) a different order by Trump that targeted a law firm. This one went after Susman Godfrey, and accused it of “weaponizing the legal system.” The judge wrote that the order was “unconstitutional and therefore null and void.”

Florida direct democracy restrictions challenged

- A hearing was held Monday in a case challenging ([link removed] ) a recent Florida law that makes it harder to participate in the ballot initiative process. A court already ruled on the first preliminary injunction motion, and advocacy groups are waiting for the court to rule on the remaining four. They want to block residency and citizenship requirements for petition circulators, a shortened petition delivery period and criminal penalties and fines for violations of the provisions.
