** PFAS found in 98% of U.S. waterways—
------------------------------------------------------------
** take action with us.
------------------------------------------------------------
Dear ,
We hope you had a chance to read our recent update and PFAS report shared earlier this week. On June 26, Waterkeeper Alliance—together with local Waterkeeper groups and Hispanic Access Foundation—released critical new findings: PFAS contamination was detected in 98% of U.S. waterways tested, with elevated levels downstream of wastewater treatment plants and biosolids sites. In fact, concentrations downstream from treatment plants were higher at 95% of sites, and 80% of sites near biosolids-applied fields showed elevated PFAS levels.
These “forever chemicals” include PFOA, PFHxA, PFBS, PFPeA, PFHpA, PFHxS, PFOS, and PFBA—all of which can pose serious health risks. In many samples, PFAS levels exceeded federal thresholds for drinking water and surpassed the strict human health-based criteria established by the Environmental Working Group.
We’re writing to ask for your help in urging immediate action from policymakers: ([link removed])
* Support federal regulations to enforce drinking water and surface water standards under the Safe Drinking Water Act and Clean Water Act.
* Ban the land-application of PFAS-contaminated biosolids, which are a major source of downstream exposure.
* Push for class-based PFAS regulation, which addresses groups of PFAS instead of lagging behind with one-by-one restrictions.
* Prioritize funding for PFAS monitoring and treatment, especially in historically underserved communities disproportionately affected by these chemicals.
Here’s how you can help today:
* Donate ([link removed]) to support ongoing monitoring and advocacy efforts.
* Write a letter or petition ([link removed]) to your member of Congress calling on EPA to adopt enforceable federal PFAS standards.
* Share this report ([link removed]) with your network to raise awareness about the national PFAS crisis.
Every voice counts in holding polluters accountable and driving federal action before it’s too late.
Thank you for standing with us to protect our waterways and communities.
