Hello!
On July 2, 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act
of 1964 into law, a monumental step forward in the fight for racial
justice, equality, and human dignity in America. It outlawed segregation
in public places, banned employment discrimination, and changed the course
of history.
In recent years, we’ve witnessed the erosion of this hard-won progress.
The Trump administration repeatedly attacked the spirit and letter of the
Civil Rights Act, rolling back protections in education, housing,
healthcare, and the workplace. From weakening enforcement in the
Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division to blocking efforts that
ensured equity in federal agencies, their agenda is clear: undo our
protections.
This anniversary isn’t just a remembrance, it’s a reminder. The fight is
not over.
Tomorrow, we’ll explore how those rollbacks affected everyday people and
how we can organize to protect what we’ve inherited.
