Honoring Our Servicemembers

During my 20 years of military service, including multiple campaigns in the Middle East, I served side by side with the finest troops in the world.

No matter what the mission is, American servicemembers always rise to the challenge, and Operation Midnight Hammer in Iran was no exception.

I'm recently introduced legislation to honor these extraordinary heroes with a military campaign medal.

Justice Served

In 2022, a tragic tractor-trailer incident claimed 53 lives in San Antonio—the deadliest human smuggling attempt in our nation’s history.

Those responsible for this crime received the justice they deserved on Friday during their sentencing.

During my time in Congress, I have introduced and helped pass multiple bills to crack down on drug and human smuggling across our borders. Last week, the House Appropriations Committee passed our border security budget, which I proudly helped craft.

Wins for our Military and Veterans

Across TX-23, I'm delivering real results for our servicemembers and veterans.

We recently passed this year’s Military Construction and Veterans Affairs funding package, which secures critical investments across TX-23 to improve healthcare access, expand mental health services, and modernize VA infrastructure.

This legislation also includes many of my district-specific priorities, like paving the way for a new veterans' hospital in San Antonio and improving our military bases in Texas.

Our district is home to thousands of veterans. I’ll keep working to ensure their service is honored with action, not just words.

Stronger Support for CBP

Last week, I was proud to advance my legislation, the PEARL Act through the House Homeland Security Committee.

Named after Pearl, a beloved, recently retired support dog, this bipartisan bill establishes a new program to train adopted shelter dogs from local animal shelters as support canines for CBP personnel.

This bill is about improving the quality of life and on-the-job resources for our law enforcement personnel who work tirelessly to ensure the homeland is safe.

Supporting Rural Communities and Texas Ag

As the proud Representative for one of the largest agricultural districts in the country, I’m proud to have delivered real wins for our farmers and ranchers in the FY26 agriculture funding bill.

Through my work on the committee, I secured a nearly $5 million increase to funding for screwworm eradication efforts and helped deliver funding to improve resources for livestock and crop management.

Earlier this month, I also joined USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins to announce the opening of a new screwworm prevention facility in South Texas, which is a key part of my legislation, the STOP Screwworms Act.
