Happy Pride Month, John!
Every June we celebrate LGBTQ+ Americans and recommit ourselves to the fight for equality.
We've made progress over the years -- including this week's historic Supreme Court decision that protects LGBTQ+ Americans from workplace discrimination. But we have a long way to go, and banning workplace discrimination alone is not enough. Dozens of states still don't have statewide laws protecting the LGBTQ+ community from discrimination in housing and public accommodations. This is unacceptable.
That's why I support the Equality Act, which explicitly outlaws discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity nationwide. The House passed this vital legislation over one year ago, but Mitch McConnell refuses to bring it up for a vote in the Senate.
In the Senate, I will always support legislation that protects the LGBTQ+ community. But we can't afford to wait -- McConnell should do his job and act now.
